Xenia Community Library Announces October Programs

Xenia, OH:  Exciting and fun programs for people of all ages are being planned at the Xenia Community Library, 76 East Market Street.

October Story Times

Preschool Story Time for ages 4-5 w/adult will be held at Xenia Community Library on Tue., Oct. 16, 30, from 10:30-11 a.m. Stories and fun.

Toddler Story Time for ages 2-3 w/adult will be held at Xenia Community Library on Tue., Oct. 16, 30, from 10:30-11 a.m. Stories, songs, fingerplays, rhymes, and fun.

Stories, Songs & Stretches for ages 3-6 will be held at Xenia Community Library on Thu., Oct. 18, 25, from 1-1:45 p.m. This story time for 3-6 year olds will incorporate yoga-inspired movement to help build early literacy and physical literacy skills. In addition to stories, there will be lots of moving, singing, dancing, and fun!

Baby Story Time for ages 0-24 mos. w/adult will be held at Xenia Community Library on Fri., Oct. 19, 26, from 10:30-11 a.m. Short stories, songs, rhymes, and lap bounces.

October Children’s Programs

Escape Room for Kids for ages 7-12 will be held at Xenia Community Library on Thu., Oct. 4, from 4-5 p.m. Can you solve the clues and breakout before time is up? Registration required. Call 352-4000.

Early Bookworms will be held at Xenia Community Library on Tue., Oct. 9, from 6-7 p.m. Read the book prior to the program and then attend the program for a rereading with fun learning activities. Check with Youth Services staff for this month’s title.

Ready, Set, Draw! will be held at Xenia Community Library on Wed., Oct. 10, from 4-4:45 p.m. Join us for fun drawing activities!

Amazing Paper Art for ages 10-18 will be held at Xenia Community Library on Thu., Oct. 11, from 4-5 p.m. Be amazed at the art you can create with paper. Learn the basics of paper quilling and create 3D art.

“I Survived” Book Club will be held at Xenia Community Library on Mon., Oct. 15, 22, 29, from 4-5 p.m. If you love the “I Survived” series books, join us for discussion and activities based on the books. Check with the Youth Services staff to see which title will be featured each week.

Shrinky Dinks for ages 6-12 will be held at Xenia Community Library on Thu., Oct. 18, from 4-5 p.m. Color a design on special shrink plastic, watch it shrink and harden in the oven, then turn it into a keychain or charm.

Maker Friday will be held at Xenia Community Library on Fri., Oct. 19, from 3:30-5 p.m. Join us to explore different making techniques while we look at different technologies such as robots, LittleBits, SnapCircuits, and Squishy Circuits as well as non-tech making such as sewing, painting, or taping.

Painted Pumpkins for ages 10-18 will be held at Xenia Community Library on Wed., Oct. 24, from 3:30-4:45 p.m. Paint a ghoulish or fun design onto a pumpkin to celebrate autumn and Halloween. Snacks provided. Registration required. Call 352-4000.

Halloween Crafts will be held at Xenia Community Library on Thu., Oct. 25, from 4-5 p.m. Color a mask, make a bat necklace, create a monster cup, and more.

October Teen Programs

Spinecrackers: Millennial Book Club for ages 18+ will be held at Xenia Community Library on Wed., Oct. 3, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Join other Millennials (20s-30s) in this informal book discussion group as we discuss popular books and life. This book club will meet the first Wednesday of every month. October’s book is Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh.

Habits of the Effective Genealogy Strategist for ages 18+ will be held at Xenia Community Library on Sat., Oct. 6, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. How much documentation is enough? What’s the best way to organize your research? Amie Bowser Tennant will explain how to create a Standard Opening Procedure, implement the Genealogical Proof Standard, and generate a research plan to effectively piece together the evidence of your ancestors’ lives. Amie actively speaks on the national level, has been a Roots Tech speaker for the past 2 years, and is a presenter at Legacy Family Tree Webinars. She writes a blog at www.TheGenealogyReporter.com and has been published in many genealogy publications, including the Ohio Genealogical Society Quarterly.

Basket Making Class for ages 18+ will be held at Xenia Community Library on Mon., Oct. 8, from 4-7 p.m. Join us and make a beautiful basket to take home with you. Registration required. Call 352-4000. 

Xenia Writers’ Group for ages 18+ will be held at Xenia Community Library on Tue., Oct. 9, 23, from 6-7:30 p.m. If you are a writer at heart, join us as we support each other in our writing endeavors. Bring a short writing sample for constructive feedback, if desired.

Block of the Month for ages 18+ will be held at Xenia Community Library on Wed., Oct. 10, from 3-5:15 p.m. and 5:30-7:45 p.m. The pattern “No Measure Bargello” will be taught on the second Wednesday of each month. Because it is a continuing program, it is important that you attend all sessions. The pattern takes a very difficult quilt design and makes it easy. You will complete a quilt top, learn how to sandwich a quilt together, machine quilt and bind it. All material will be provided for a lap size quilt. Fall Banner Class for ages 18+ will be held at Xenia Community Library on Mon., Oct. 15, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Make an autumn-themed banner using card stock, ink, rubber stamps, die cuts, and embellishments to vertically spell the word “fall.” Registration required. Call 352-4000.

How to Brew with Devil Wind for ages 21+ will be held at Xenia Community Library on Wed., Oct. 17, from 5-7:30 p.m. Join Michael Van Kirk and Doug Lane from Devil Wind Brewing as they teach an introductory course on homebrewing with all-grain and no extracts, the brewing process, and taking questions about the jump from homebrewing to professional brewing and what that entails!
