Xenia Police Officer Receives MADD Award
Xenia, Ohio (April 10, 2018) Xenia Police Division Officer David Elliott was honored at the annual southwest Ohio MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) Chapter’s Awards Banquet on March 29, 2018. Officer Elliott was honored for his dedication to removing impaired drivers from the streets of Xenia.
Since being hired by the City of Xenia Police Division in 2014, Officer Elliott has consistently been one of the Police Division’s top enforcers of drunk and drugged driving. In 2017, Officer Elliott issued a total of 161 traffic citations. Of that number, 33, or 20%, were for drunk or drugged driving. Officer Elliott also teaches OVI enforcement to the basic police academy and to other officers in the department.
In 2017, he attended a federally sponsored three-week class to become a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). The DRE designation is very difficult to receive and technical training required him to complete stringent written and practical examinations. Now that he is a certified DRE, he is considered an expert in the field and has added another layer of enforcement tools to help keep impaired drivers off the roadway and keep the citizens of Xenia safe.
The Xenia Police Division congratulates Officer Elliott for his accomplishment and thanks him for his dedication and service to the citizens of Xenia.
