City of Xenia To Host “Hometown Christmas 2017” Festivities
The City of Xenia will hold its annual “Hometown Christmas” festivities in historic Downtown Xenia, Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 9 am until 9 pm.
The 2017 festivities will feature numerous events and activities throughout the day, including a light show finale at Xenia’s iconic Shawnee Park that will feature more than 10,000 lights programmed to Christmas music. In what is probably the most unique lighting celebration relationship in the nation, the 2017 light show is being produced and donated free of charge as a way to give back by Xenia Police Chief Randy Person, who has held the wildly popular light display at his home in previous years.
Other activities throughout the day include:
9 am-Noon -5 K Ugly Sweater Reindeer Run and Winterland Walk- Xenia Station, 150 South Miami Avenue, Xenia, with proceeds benefitting Xenia Police community outreach
10 am-3:00 pm - Gingerbread House Decorating Contest, X-Act 1 Theatre, 45 E. Second Street, Xenia
4 pm-4:30 pm - Hometown Christmas 2017 Parade- Starts at Xenia Station with procession to Shawnee Park
5 pm-9 pm - Shawnee Park Festivities, Santa and Mrs. Claus, Reindeer and Reindeer Games, Food Trucks and Vendors, Xenia Choir Ensemble and Xenia High School Jazz Band, Featured Christmas performer Alexis Gomez, American Idol Finalist and Country Singer, and the “Xenia Lights” Light Show Finale.
In addition, Home Town Christmas 2017 will be held in tandem with Small Business Saturday, an annual event throughout the United States showcasing small businesses. Many independently owned stores and companies throughout Xenia will be open that day for business, including Country Blessings Gifts and More, Wicklines, The Flower Stop, Rusty N Chippy’s, Harworth Tire and Auto Service, Tiffany Jewelers, Our Family Soap, Table of Contents Restaurant, Emerald Loft Salon and Day Spa, Mary’s Odds and End, Xenia Shoe and Leather, Yellow Dog Pet Supply, Kay’s Floral Kreations, Nick’s Restaurant and more. Other Hometown Christmas activities will include all day horse and carriage rides, a Window Winterland Scavenger Hunt, a Window Winterland decorating contest, a candy cane hunt, children’s train rides, food, music, and much more. Hometown Christmas activities are designed to leave plenty of time to shop locally and support Xenia businesses.
City Manager Brent Merriman stated, “Each year we grow our Hometown Christmas event, and this year is no exception. Due to the hard work of volunteers like Rebecca Cantrell, Xenia Police Chief Randy Person and so many others, we have been able to add dimension to our event. The addition of American Idol finalist Alexis Gomez and our new lighting event at Xenia’s Shawnee Park, will go far to make our Christmas celebration memorable for everyone.”
