Blasting All Records: GCP&T’s Greene Trails Cycling Classic Attracts Nearly 400 Cyclists

Attracting a record number of cyclists from across the country, Greene County Parks & Trails (GCP&T) hosted nearly 400 cyclists to its 14th Annual Greene Trails Cycling Classic.

“It was thrilling to see so many cyclists excited about the quality of our paved trail network in Greene County,” says GCP&T Director Chrisbell Bednar.  “Cyclists from throughout the country as well as local cyclists created lifelong memories, renewed friendships and supported the local economy through the hotel stays, restaurant visits and purchases during their visit to the region. When we see people enjoying the paved trails, it makes our work at GCP&T so fulfilling.”

The four-day event featured all five paved trails in Greene County, which is part of the nation’s largest network of paved trails.  Cyclists experienced a different trail daily, as well as daily breakfast, two dinners, rest stops on the trial, Support-and-Gear (SAG Support) and an awards ceremony for the 100-Mile Century Ride and 62-Mile Metric Century Ride.

Cyclists camped at GCP&T’s Fairgrounds Recreation Center in Xenia or stayed within local bed-and-breakfasts or inns.

Ages of cyclists ranged from single digits to well over 80 years old at the event, which focused on creating a family-friendly atmosphere with many participants returning year after year to renew friendships.

Food is critical to fueling a successful distance cycling ride as CP&T Trail Sentinels spent the week volunteering with rest stops, SAG support and meals.
