Central State University Invests more than $20M in Infrastructure and Facility Upgrades

Central State University is investing more than $20M in upgrades to its campus and facilities, which will result in updated dormitories, enhanced security and renovated academic buildings.

The projects will span through Spring 2018 and will include new sidewalks and new ADA accessible entrances, a campus-wide camera system and an upgrade of the entire campus communications infrastructure.

Recently Completed Projects

University College

Completion: February 2017

Project Cost: $85,000

University College operations have been relocated to the Norman E. Ward Sr. Center. Workspace upgrades included painting, new flooring, wall treatments and IT upgrades.  

Hallie Q. Brown Memorial Library Renovation Phase 1

Completion: April 2017

Project Cost: $3,000,000

Renovation of existing space to address roof repairs, HVAC upgrades and several general repairs.  

Current Major Projects

Sidewalk and Road Repairs

Targeted Completion Date: August 2017

Project Budget: $1,800,000

In partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation, new asphalt, sidewalks, curbs and curb drains will be made on University grounds. New ADA accessible entrances will be installed during this phase of major road and sidewalk repairs. Expected project start date: July 2017.

Williamson Hall

Targeted Completion Date: August 2017

Project Budget: $750,000

Renovations includes full overhaul of floors 3 and 4 and general repairs to the entire building. The contractor will replace the roof, replace flooring, paint, do HVAC repairs, bathroom updates and other general repairs. Project start date: May 2017.

All Other Residential Halls

Targeted Completion Date: August 2017

Project Budget: $750,000

General maintenance and repairs to all residence halls. Project start date: May 2017.

Registrar/Cash Management

Targeted Completion Date: August 2017

Project Budget: $275,000

Renovations to the Ward Center to accommodate the offices of Cash Management and the Registrar are occurring. Both offices are moving from the Newsom Administration building to the Ward Center. The renovation will include a new ceiling, painting and construction of new cubicles and offices. HVAC, electrical and IT updates are included in the renovation.

Project start date: June 2017.

Campus Wide Chillers and HVAC Upgrades

Targeted Completion Date: September 2017

Project Budget: $1,503,350

This project includes the replacement of inefficient chillers and HVAC distribution systems in three Academic and Administration buildings. In 2012, the University secured Air Quality Bonds to upgrade the heating energy management system, but did not address the much-needed cooling system upgrades. This project will begin to address the most critical cooling and air handling issues on campus. Project start date: April 2017.  

Emery Hall Renovation

Targeted Completion Date: December 2017

Project Budget: $2,100,000

The renovation of the outer wings of Emery Hall, with upgrades to the HVAC, office spaces and all critical services, is in progress. Project start date: May 2017.

Information Technology Network and Infrastructure Upgrades

Targeted Completion Date: December 2017

Project Budget: $3,447,000

Upgrades include the entire campus communication infrastructure. This initiative will upgrade the communication backbone, complete Wi-Fi upgrade, purchase of computers and workstations, and provide a strategic plan for where the institution is moving for its communications needs. Project start date is June 2017.

Campus Security, Safety and Lighting Improvements

Targeted Completion Date: December 2017

Project Budget: $1,900,000

Several major improvements to campus security will occur and will include the following: Door access system, full camera system, improved lighting and emergency response system. Expected project start date is July 2017.  

Hallie Q. Brown Memorial Library Renovations Phase 2

Targeted Completion Date: Spring 2018

Project Budget: $5,020,000

This is a continuation of Phase 1 and it will address three major components: roof replacement, completion of HVAC upgrades, and library modernization.

Project start date: May 2017.
