Very Dangerous Cyber Attack!
Unknown cyber criminals have taken an NSA 0-day threat and weaponized a ransomware strain so that it replicates like a worm and takes over the whole network using the SMBV1 protocol. There is a 2-month old Microsoft patch that urgently needs to be applied if you have not done that already. "You may have seen the news this weekend. Criminal hackers have released a new strain of ransomware that spreads itself automatically across all workstations in a network, causing a global epidemic. This attack is extremely dangerous and what makes it different from other attacks is, you do not have to click on a link or open a file to get infected!
If you are not a Quanexus MSP customer, you need to immediately make sure your systems are fully patched.
If you are still running Windows XP and or Windows 2003 server, because of the magnitude of this attack, Microsoft has released patches to close this vulnerability. You will need to install these patches manually.
What should you do, if you suspect a hack?
- If you are a Quanexus MSP client, all of the Microsoft patches have been deployed.
- In addition, our Security Stack model of updates, patches, anti-virus and firewall protection are in place.
- Notify your team to update and patch their personal devices.
- Lastly, delete the message.
