Ribbon Cutting at Restored Historical Xenia Home

A historic house near downtown Xenia has new life!  Described as an example of Queen Anne and Eastlake-style architectures, the Nesbitt House is located at 136 W. Second Street in Xenia's Water Street Historic District. The vacant 10,270-square-foot home was purchased by  John Zeller of Xenia-based Zeller Insurance Agency LLC who has lovingly restored and renovated the home into four apartments. photo 2  This renovation is part of the city of Xenia's comprehensive plan to upgrade historic housing near the city's downtown. The plan encourages private owners to invest in the community with the use of funding incentives to achieve the goal of providing quality residential space for those who wish to live near the historic downtown.

Zeller said that some of the home's flooring was covered by linoleum panels and carpeting that kept the original hardwood preserved for many years, and described the woodwork throughout the thirty-room property as "just incredible." The home was owned by the Nesbitt family and is estimated to have been built sometime around 1875. The Nesbitt family lived there during the 1890s, and in 1916 the home was converted into two apartments. Zeller said that the family was quite prominent in Xenia, owning several stores downtown, including a hardware store and a clothing store. The home was later used by Mrs. Nesbitt as a boarding house after her husband died.
