One Bistro September 2023 Newsletter

Our Neighbors' News

September arrived at One Bistro with many blessings in tow. This newsletter provides a look back at the month.

A generous grant of $2000, to support our Ministry Meal program, was received from Reynolds Associate Foundation. Thank you, Reynolds Associate Foundation for partnering again with us this year!

Robin Crichton stepped up to donate and deliver beautiful flowers to finish out the growing season while Betsy Harner, our usual donor and volunteer, is recovering from surgery. The flowers really add to the ambiance in the café and we are so grateful for the generosity of both ladies.

Cha Cha’s Street Sweets came on board as a Table Sponsor. Such a “sweet” joy to receive their support!

With deep gratitude, One Bistro received a Basic Human Needs Grant from The Dayton Foundation (www.daytonfoundation.org) to help feed our neighbors 2,500 complimentary meals! Thank you, thank you to The Dayton Foundation for understanding and supporting our mission!

We are so blessed to have received a $1,000 grant from Xenia Rotary Club!

Jenna Lyn attended the Junior Service Fair at Chaminade Julienne. What a wonderful opportunity to share One Bistro's mission with the students and to invite them to come and volunteer with us.

Giving Back With the Gift of Art

Terra Stanley is the elementary school art teacher at Legacy Christian Academy, but she also finds time to design and paint our chalkboard each month! If you have dined with us in the past year, you may have noticed her sweet and whimsical drawings, highlighting our weekly specials, Community Meal sponsors & volunteers and our monthly mission results. "Art is a gift that God has given me," Terra says. "At One Bistro I can use that gift to give back to my community in a way that is not about me." She loves the foundation and the mission of One Bistro because it allows everyone, patrons and volunteers alike, to serve and to receive what they need with dignity.

We are so thankful for our WONDERFUL Community Meal volunteer groups!

"Loved the food, love the business model." Rose M.

We love when groups come during regular service hours and volunteer together, share the love and serve one another!

Thank you Customformed Products for your generous donation of logo boxes as we reach our community beyond our café doors. And, thank you, Chris Johnson for making this happen.

Here are some of the BEAUTIFUL smiling faces who joined us in the bistro in September.

Neighborhood Night Out

A team of employees from the City of Xenia came to One Bistro to make sandwiches and assemble the box dinners for Neighborhood Night Out. One Bistro also had a booth at the final 2023 Neighborhood Night Out event at Arrowood Elementary School in September. We provided 200 boxed dinners for the community! It is such a blessing for us to be able to partner with the City of Xenia to support our neighbors and families with food and an evening of fun as a community!

One Bistro's Ministry Meals

Each month One Bistro provides meals to various organizations who have a need for meals. Please enjoy these two beautiful testimonies of the goodness that comes from sharing hope and love through food!

A message from Feather Birdsong, Operation Specialist at Family Promise of Greene County:

"One Bistro provides meals (to Family Promise of Greene County) on the last Thursday of each month. The meal that is provided by One Bistro allows FPGC the ability to feed the families who are currently in the shelter program. One Bistro's meal donation has been consistent and they make a huge difference.

"Being local, One Bistro not only helps the community, but also shows displaced guests that the community cares about their welfare. It also opens up discussions about volunteering and giving back to the community as well.

"We had a family move into our facility towards dinnertime and One Bistro was the meal being served that night. After dinner the children informed us that that was the first "real" meal they've had in a long time. Just knowing that One Bistro is right around the corner from us, gives us a sense of acceptance and comfort. Thank You guys so much for your continued help and service to our cause!!!"

A message from Judge Amy Lewis from Greene County's Juvenile Detention Center:

"Last night was a first. Every single child in detention had someone show up to share the One Bistro meal with them. There was a lot of joy that evening, so much that the positive dispositions of the kids that evening really stood out. For a moment every child connected with someone who cared about them and felt special. Thank you for this amazing opportunity. These kids are not used to having a sit down meal with their families. Hopefully this becomes the norm when they're released.

"The meals are appreciated by all and the quantity is enough to ensure everyone leaves with a full stomach. This is so important because our families have food insecurity issues. Just having the gas money to attend the dinner is huge for these families."

"This is a community restaurant meaning they have volunteers run most of the jobs and serve meals to the community members in need. The food was great, the service was great, and the atmosphere is friendly. You are able to donate a meal as well as volunteer (after some training). So please stop on by" Gabrielle T.
