Course Description
This one-hour program will provide an introductory overview of business continuity planning and includes resources from the Ohio Emergency Management Agency and Federal Emergency Management Agency. Participants will learn about the necessity for disaster business continuity planning and steps to take to help ensure a quick recovery after a catastrophic interruption to operations.

Speaker Bio
Chief Jack Smith is a Bureau Chief within the Ohio Department of Commerce - Division of State Fire Marshal where he currently serves as the Superintendent of the Ohio Fire Academy. Prior to leading the state fire academy, Chief Smith served for 35 years as a firefighter, paramedic, company officer, and Battalion Chief in the Cincinnati and Dayton areas. Throughout his fire service career Chief Smith has also been heavily involved in a variety of disaster preparedness, planning, response, and recovery missions in the FEMA Urban Search & Rescue system with Ohio Task Force-1, designing and developing the state’s disaster field hospital system through the National Center for Medical Readiness at Wright State University, serving on various working groups under the Ohio Department of Health to develop statewide response plans for emerging infectious diseases and mass casualty burns, and most recently as the Mass Fatality Branch Director during the Covid pandemic. He holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Cedarville University and a Master’s in Emergency and Disaster Management from American Public University.
