ONLINE CYBERSECURITY CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
With Central State University’s professional online Cybersecurity Certificate Program, students
can begin a cybersecurity career!
Central State University is currently enrolling for its new Online Cybersecurity Certificate Program.
With Central State University’s professional online Cybersecurity Certificate Program, students can begin a cybersecurity career within a year. With expert-led classes and immersive, real-world training, students are prepared for a successful career in Cybersecurity. The best part—no previous experience is required.
The program is “textbook free” and is offered fully online. The one-year technical certificate program prepares students for jobs in cyber-related occupations, such as digital forensic analysis, intrusion detection, network administrators, database administrators, and software developers. Students are required to complete 30 credit hours. These courses include Computer Networks, Database Systems, Cybersecurity I, and Cybersecurity II.
According to Arunasalam Rahunanthan, Ph.D., associate professor of Mathematics and chair of Mathematics and Computer Science at Central State, the demand for cybersecurity professionals is high and there is a low percent unemployment rate. “The cybersecurity industry is exploding and is one of the top concerns facing corporate industry. This certificate program will prepare our students to contribute to the cyber related workforce, which is very rewarding because we to ensure that those who are underrepresented have an opportunity to succeed in this growing industry. We are helping to contribute to a more diverse workforce in the cybersecurity field,” adds Dr. Rahunanthan.
President of Central State University, Dr. Jack Thomas says that the cybersecurity job outlook in 2022 is very bright and because of the demand it is vitally important that Central State University be at the forefront of training professionals who can keep technology, intel, and data safe. “The demand for skilled and trained people will only increase as innovation progresses,” adds Dr, Thomas. “Innovation is in our DNA and we are excited to have this new and innovative program at Central State University!”
“Central State Global is proud to offer this high demand and affordable career path,” says Arletha McSwain, Ph.D. and Chief Online Learning Officer with The Center for Instructional Technology Innovation (C.I.T.I.) at Central State University. “Dreams do come true at CSU! As President Thomas would say, ‘Central State Global—transforming the world, one student at a time!’”
The online Cybersecurity Certificate program is offered by the College of Engineering, Science, Technology, and Agriculture (CESTA), in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Central State University and is designed to be a gateway to develop the essential skills needed to be a strategic data defender capable of protecting an organization from highly disruptive cyberattacks. The program offers stackable credentials for those who desire to pursue higher-level degrees and certifications.
The Cybersecurity program is funded by the Ohio Department of Higher Education, who according to Dr. Rahunanthan, encouraged regional institutions to develop cybersecurity labs in their departments of mathematics and computer science to help meet the growing demand for Cybersecurity professionals. “Institutions were invited to apply for funding, and Central State University was one of the institutions to receive an award,” says Dr. Rahunanthan. “What’s really nice is that no experience, other than the completion of a college level math course is required to become a student in the program. Anyone who applies themselves has an opportunity to be successful.”
Courses within the curriculum will help students prepare for industry-relevant cybersecurity certifications like: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Cloud+, and CompTIA LINUX+. devices. Scholarships may be available for those who are eligible. To register visit CentralState.edu/academics/cse/cybersecurity/
