“Xenia Rotary Club “Flips Out” for Xenia!”
A long-standing Xenia tradition is returning after being impacted by COVID these past two years. The Xenia Rotary Club is once again holding it’s Annual Xenia Rotary Pancake Day on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the Assembly Hall of the Greene County Fairgrounds. The fundraising event is being held to support several local Xenia Community Charities. Tickets to the event are free, but donations are requested at the door in order to support the charitable work of the Xenia Rotary Club.
Xenia Rotary’s first Pancake Day was held April 10, 1957 in the old YMCA. Fred Lang and Birch Bell were co-chairmen. That year most of the material we used was given to the Club in exchange for advertising. Quaker Oats not only furnished the pancake mix, but also brought big bottle gas grills, 2 or 3 men who worked all day, Aunt Jemima, and the knowledge that they had accumulated in other places. Tickets were $1.00.
Today the event tickets are free but all in attendance are asked to contribute a minimum of $6.00 as a donation at the door for all the pancakes you can eat. Your first serving also includes Bob Evans sausage links, juice and coffee or milk. The doors open at 6:00AM and close at 7:00PM. We expect to serve around 2,000 people on April 6th.
The Xenia Rotary Club was founded locally in 1920 and uses the proceeds of the event to fund its many service activities in the community including support for the Kevin Sonnycalb Memorial Fireworks, Xenia Adult Recreation Center mobile meals, Xenia YMCA scholarships for kids and families, IHN, the Xenia Community Schools Foundation, 4-H livestock purchases, youth soccer, baseball and football teams and other local charities. A major event that the Xenia Rotary Club sponsors each year is providing Christmas gifts to 200 needy children of the Xenia area. Each year the club's donations total over $25,000.
