GCPH To Celebrate Its 100th Anniversary With Time Capsule Burial
Greene County Public Health’s (GCPH) 100th anniversary in 2020 was somewhat overshadowed by what we now know as the COVID-19 pandemic and the employees have been working tirelessly to ensure the health and safety of Greene County’s residents with vaccine clinics, education efforts, contact tracing and disease investigation. This October, the employees invite you to join them in taking a short break from the pandemic to remember the 100th anniversary with the burial of a time capsule to be opened in the year 2070.
GCPH officials are pleased to invite the public to attend a special celebration dedicating its time capsule on Friday, October 8 at 2:00pm at the health district located at 360 Wilson Drive in Xenia.
The items in this time capsule will provide a glimpse of what public health was like for Greene County during 2020. “This is an opportunity to share where we have been, what has been accomplished and give future generations a view into what it was like to live in turbulent times and still have hope”, said Melissa Howell, Health Commissioner for Greene County Public Health.
During the event, the time capsule will be filled with various items representing GCPH including: an empty vial of each COVID-19 vaccine brand, two empty syringes (no needles), a COVID-19/GCPH t-shirt, the 2020 annual report, several other pieces of literature related to GCPH’s programs and services, a map of the county, stickers from the 100th anniversary, a COVID-19 vaccination sticker, an emergency preparedness guide, a GCPH face mask, a small bottle of hand sanitizer, and more. A full list of items will be available at the ceremony in October.
Invitations to our local elected officials, county partners and other dignitaries will be mailed soon. The public is invited to join Greene County Public Health for this special occasion.
