Our Neighbors' News

Happy Birthday, America!

We are blessed to live in a country that celebrates freedom and independence.

We are grateful we can express that freedom and independence through our faith and food.

At One Bistro you have the freedom to choose not only what you will eat but what you will pay.

We know you have many options; we are grateful when you choose us!

We are so thankful for your support and involvement in HIS mission:

"To provide a place where our neighbors eat andcome together as one community."

What's New?

One Bistro will be closed for a time of rest and rejuvenation for our team members. During this time, we are also having a new commercial grade kitchen floor installed which will make working more efficient, safe and enjoyable. Thank you, Weiffenbach Marble & Tile Company, for doing the work for us. And, thank you, Toward Independence, for partnering with us on this venture.

You may also notice the store front is having some repair and refresh work by Dixon and Son Home Improvements, thanks to a grant from the Greene County Department of Development. We are also thankful for Toward Independence for partnering with us on this project, too. We are excited to have these two projects finished in time for reopening on July 14, of course, weather permitting!

"Great concept and great food. The restaurant is community based, all food is the same price, and the staff are all volunteers. Just really a cool place and a must visit if in Xenia."

All About One Bistro Volunteers

One Bistro has the BEST volunteers who are coordinated and trained by our own Front House Coordinator, Shayne Shaffer. We asked Shayne a few questions about volunteering at the bistro and here is what she said:

What are the duties volunteers have in the café during open hours?
Volunteer duties include the following: host/hostess, server, busser, drink/food runner, take phone orders, put together to go orders, dishes and cleaning.

When volunteers come in what is the most popular assignment they want to do?
The most popular activity is bussing tables. People are nervous about serving tables until they get comfortable.

When is a typical time you need volunteers the most?
We always seem to need folks. It would be ideal to have three or four volunteers each day. Ideally, one or more would be able to wait tables. Saturdays we always have need for volunteers at all activities. Rare is the Saturday we do not have a volunteer gap. Thankfully, our crowd understands and is patient.

Can people just stop in to volunteer or do they have to sign up on SignUpGenius?
You can volunteer at any time; drop in or schedule a time via Signup Genius. Scheduling a time helps to alleviate having too many people on one day and too few the next. But please, if you do sign up via SignupGenuis, make sure you show up.

Can someone just show up to help close the café each day? What time should they arrive and what would they do?
Yes, you may show up to help us clean up and close the café and frankly, that is always a big blessing. Ideally, one would arrive around 1:30 pm and plan to stay until 3:00 pm. Cleaning, stocking, sweeping, emptying trash, dishes and mopping are typical duties.

What about opening the café?
To help open the café, it is best to arrive by 10:00 am on Wednesday through Friday and 7:30 am on Saturday. Opening requires wiping down the tables and chairs, cleaning, filling drink pitchers, filling dressing cups and shining and rolling silverware.

Could someone be helpful on Tuesday to get the café ready for the week and what would they help you do?
We have a group from Toward Independence that helps on Tuesdays. They roll silverware, fill dressing cups, wipe menus and do some light cleaning/stocking. If someone’s best volunteer day is Tuesday, give me (Shayne) a call and we can sort through volunteer options.

Shayne hosts volunteer training once a month for those who would like more information and preparation for volunteering. Her next training is scheduled for Tuesday, July 27th from 10:00-12:00.

Thank you for your willingness to serve and make a difference in the community!

Notes...

Recently we received a letter from a couple who moved away to northern Indiana but whose hearts are still with their "home" area --- they are sponsoring a community meal. What a blessing! Thank you, dear friends!

Community Meal

Every Wednesday Evening From 5:00-7:00

All Are Welcome!!

"My husband and I love One Bistro because the food is sooo tasty and we like to know we're giving back to the community."
~ Maggie

Our Concept

All menu prices are a “suggested price” as we embrace a “pay what you can afford” concept with the following payment options.

  • Pay what you can afford. If unable to pay, give your time in service as payment.
  • Pay the full amount of the suggested price.
  • Pay the full amount of the suggested price, plus a little extra to “pay it forward.” When you “pay it forward” by $6, you cover the cost of one meal for someone else to enjoy.

Return on Investment... It Pays To Belong

When a business invests in the Xenia Area Chamber, it forms a partnership with over 400 other investors that leverage time, money, and other assets to create stronger individual businesses and a stronger community.
