Xenia Community Schools Foundation Announces 2021 Scholarships

Karleigh Godfrey is the recipient of the annual scholarship sponsored by the Xenia Community Schools Foundation. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization operating in collaboration with and in support of the Xenia Community Schools. In addition to the scholarship, the Foundation awards $25,000.00 a year in classroom grants for special projects. The scholarship is funded with proceeds from the annual Xenia Community Schools Foundation Hall of Honor Dinner and Induction Ceremony.

Karleigh Godfrey’s activities include: Swim Team, Spanish Club, Chemistry Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, Prom Committee, Renaissance, Peer Facilitation and Academic Team. Her volunteer efforts have included work with 4-H as a counselor and Girl Scouts serving at the Caring Place, along with other volunteer activities. She will attend Wright State University and major in Nursing. Karleigh, a Xenia High School Graduate of Distinction, is the daughter of Courtney Durflinger.

The Foundation also administers funds for several other scholarships.

1. John E. Meyer II Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is funded by the sponsor family through the Xenia Community Schools Foundation. This year the recipient is Aleeha Chaffin, daughter of Joe and Andrea Chaffin. Aleeha will attend Sinclair Community College. She has been active in Tennis, Chemistry Club, National Honor Society, Student Council and Yearbook.

2. Shirley J. Ellis and X*ACT Theater Scholarship Two scholarships were awarded. The scholarships were established to honor the memory of Shirley R. Ellis. It is awarded annually to one or more Xenia High School seniors, who will attend an institution of higher education and has/have participated in theater or attended theater classes.

Isabel Wickline is the daughter of Marc and Judy Wickline. She has been active in Ensemble, Musicals, Swimming, Tennis, Spanish Club, FFA, National Honor Society and Student Council. She plans to attend Wright State University.

Garrison Henry is the son of Heather Henry. He has been active in Ensemble, Musicals and Student Council. Garrison plans to attend Ohio State University. Garrison Henry has been named a Graduate of Distinction.

The Xenia Community Schools Foundation provides $1,000.00 in a scholarship to a graduating senior. Students interested in applying for the scholarship should follow the scholarship application process adopted by the Guidance Office at Xenia High School. The Foundation Scholarship Committee reviews the applications and make the final selection. The scholarships were announced at the annual Scholarship Awards Assembly at Xenia High School. The assembly was held on Friday May, 14, 2021.
