Our Neighbors' News

As we begin a new year, we first want to stop and say “thank you” to our wonderful volunteers who are the heart behind our mission, to our sponsors and donors whose generosity make this mission possible, to the regular customers who bless us by their patronage, to our first-timers who bring unbelievable joy to our café and to our community who support us in a way that is incredible. We dedicate this newsletter to all of you!

We are so thankful for your support and involvement in HIS mission:
"To provide a place where our neighbors eat and
come together as one community."

Christmas Dinner Community Meal

What an amazing Christmas celebration at Community Meal! THANK YOU to the Booher and Barnett Family for sponsoring the meal and volunteering to serve it. Special thanks to Barbara Mills for organizing the stocking project; her wonderful book club of angels generously donated all the items for the stockings and her grandchildren of elves stuffed each stocking with love and great care. Our friends from Resurrection Crossing purchased and donated fleece blankets for all of our guests. Thank you all for loving our neighbors so well, especially at Christmastime.

"What a gem! The food is amazing and it’s great to support a business with a mission to feed the hungry & build community!" ~ Clay

Marissa Hargrave

Marissa is a senior at Greeneview High School and in her second year in the National Honor Society. This year for her NHS project she decided to sponsor a Community Meal for One Bistro. She had volunteered at One Bistro in the past in order to fulfill community service hours for NHS, and knew the impact the Community Meals have for families who have been struggling this year. Marissa contacted different organizations, sharing with them about One Bistro and its mission, and was able to raise enough money to sponsor TWO Community Meals!

Marissa had mostly volunteered on Saturdays, so serving at a Community Meal was a different experience, "very straightforward and easy," she said. "I love that I can see the effects of what my volunteering is doing," Marissa said, "and I love the community that One Bistro has built."

Marissa recommends One Bistro for other NHS students! "Not only can you donate monetarily, you can also donate your time. Volunteering as a server can also help give students experience for a resume if they haven't had a job yet!"

Meet Te’Aliya.

Te’Aliya, one of our volunteers, was excited to see One Bistro on the list of places to choose from to satisfy her court appointed community service hours. Te’Aliya first became aware of One Bistro in 2017 when someone told her she could come here and work for food which she did from time to time. When asked how volunteering at One Bistro has helped her, she said, “It helped me get better at talking and communicating with people, has taught me how to give back to my community and has taught me patience. Miss Shayne is a very good teacher and very patient when training.” Te’Aliya recommends One Bistro as a place to volunteer because you can get the hours you need, learn new skills or improve the ones you already have and is a great atmosphere to work in.

Travis & Lindsay Logsdon

We are residents of Beavercreek, but frequent downtown Xenia. On one of our trips, we stopped in at the coffee hub and One Bistro was open. We couldn’t believe such a great organization was so close to us and decided to sit down and eat. We immediately fell in love with the mission of One Bistro, the people we see there, and especially the food. Our family (my wife and four kids) love to go out to breakfast, so heading to One Bistro on Saturday for brunch quickly became a family tradition. To me One Bistro is first a non-profit restaurant that helps combat food insecurity in our local community, which is something we love and fully support. Knowing every citizen in the community can have a meal if needed, whether they have $$ or not, is huge for uplifting the community, especially those who are less fortunate or who have fallen on hard times. After eating at One Bistro just a few times, I quickly realized One Bistro is really more than a non-profit and more like a family of like minded folks who value every member of the community. I love the main street platter, but my kids prefer the omelet and pancakes on Saturday morning. Honestly, it’s all good and we haven’t had a bad meal there yet.

Thank you for your willingness to serve and make a difference in the community!
