Company Description

In 1929, about 100 Greene County residents met to organize an historical society. Miss Emma King donated property for a museum at the corner of Second and Monroe Streets. In 1936, the Galloway log house was moved from its original location near Goes Station. The property on West Church Street was acquired in 1965, holding the Moorehead house, the Snediker Museum, and the Glossinger Cultural Center; the Galloway log house was removed to this location, completing the four-building complex. Things were as usual for the Society until April 3, 1974, when the tornado came to Xenia. Of the four buildings, three were damaged beyond repair. The log house was reopened to the public in December 1975. The Victorian house was moved from the corner of Church and Detroit in 1977. The Brantley Carriage House Museum was erected in 1990; it is handicap accessible, and houses the railroad display and a variety of other artifacts. Historical Society hours are 9 AM to 3:30 PM, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. It is also open the third Saturday of each month, June through September, 10 AM to 4 PM. Cost is $3 per person 18 and over, $2 for those 17 and under.
