Using Catholic Sacramental Records in Family History Research for ages 18+

Using Catholic Sacramental Records in Family History Research for ages 18+ will be held at Xenia Community Library on Sat., Feb. 2, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Catholic sacramental records (baptism, marriage, and death registers) are a rich source of information for family history: they confirm family relationships and document activities within the life of the Church. These records, which can provide information often lacking in civil records, are available from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Archives. Sarah Ater and Julie Ross will present an overview of sacramental records and how to access and interpret them, as well as the history of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Sarah is the archivist for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, having previously worked for the Diocese of Owensboro and the Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph. She received her Master’s in Library Science from Indiana University Bloomington. Julie has over 45 years of experience researching her family history. She is currently the Catholic Archives Liaison for the Archdiocese of  Cincinnati. As a member of the Hamilton County Genealogy Society, she has served as Editor of The Tracer, and as Membership Director. This class is co-sponsored by the Greene County RoomLocal History & Genealogy and the Greene County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society.
