Greene County Parks & Trails Hosts "Canine Christmas"

GCP&T partners with GC Animal Care and Control for 2018 “Canine Christmas”

Owners and their favorite four-footed friends can capture a holiday memory during Greene County Parks & Trails’ (GCP&T) and Greene County Animal Care and Control’s “Canine Christmas,” 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, at James Ranch Park in Xenia.

The event is being co-hosted for the first time with Greene County Animal Care and Control.

"We’re always grateful to be able to partner with another Greene County agency,” says GCP&T Director Jon Dobney.  “Greene County Animal Care and Control will be a great addition to the event and will allow our guests to learn more about the adoptable pets looking for homes during the holidays.”

Participants may take their own photographs within the 1880s brick home with Santa Claus or have a professional photograph taken by Angela Payne of No Payne Photography for a $5 donation.

New this year, pet owners will be able to create a one-of-kind paw print ornament on a tree cookie that was cut from a GCP&T park. Cost is $2 and all proceeds benefit GCP&T’s Scout Dog Park in Xenia, as well as the pets at Greene County Animal Care and Control.

All pets must be on leash.

Greene County Animal Care and Control will be sharing photos of the pets that are available for adoption at the event, as well as accepting donations of toys and treats for pets in the shelter during the holidays. A Greene County Animal Care and Control Giving Tree will be on-site for patrons to pledge donations and bring to the shelter.

“We want all of our amazing dogs and cats to have homes this holiday season,” says Greene County Animal Care and Control Director Julie Holmes-Taylor.  “We will have photographs of the adoptable pets and would invite everyone to come over to the shelter at 641 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Xenia, and meet their new best friend.”
