April 27-30, 2017

Buckeye TrailFest will bring 200-300 hikers to Yellow Springs, April 27-30. TrailFest kicks off a series of events as a part of Greene County’s Year of the Trail celebration.

Key events:

“Our region has become known as the Outdoor Adventure Capitol of the Midwest,” says Mark Heise, Chairman of TrailFest 2017, “I am proud to bring this event to my home in Yellow Springs.”

The Sixth Annual TrailFest will attract hikers from beginners to veteran through-hikers to Yellow Springs to learn more about hiking and backpacking the country’s longest loop trail. The event will start with the designation of Yellow Springs as a Trail Town for both the Buckeye Trail and the North Country Trail. Participants will hike throughout the area including Glen Helen, Clifton Gorge, Massie Creek Gorge, and John Bryan State Park as well as parts of Caesar Creek State Park. Additional highlights include:

  • Yellow Springs Trail Town Designation Thursday, April 27th 5:00 pm at the Yellow Springs Station (Open to the public)
  • Membership Drive and movie Trail Magic: The Grandma Gatewood Story Thursday, April 27th 7:00 pm at the Little Art Theatre, Yellow Springs
  • Tomfoolery Follows the Blue Blazes Hike-In from Old Town Reserve 10:00 am Thursday, April 27th. Tom Helbig will discuss his through-hike of the Buckeye Trail complete with all of the Tomfoolery involved at TrailFest Friday, April 28th 6:30 pm
  • Stacey (Ironwill) Kozel will discuss through-hiking the Appalachian Trail as a paraplegic at TrailFest 6:00 pm, Saturday, April 28th

Buckeye Trail Association - Founded in 1959, the Buckeye Trail Association builds, maintains, protects and promotes Ohio's premiere long-distance hiking trail. The Buckeye Trail, Ohio's State Scenic Trail, is a dedicated, recognized and protected route developed and maintained by the BTA.  The trail winds around the state creating a 1,400 mile loop. As a volunteer and membership based organization, the BTA works alongside individuals, communities, organizations and agencies around Ohio to create a legacy for present and future generations.
